As a participant in Carnival 2009, AGMC has been invited to register now for space at Midsumma Carnival to be held on Sunday 17thJanuary 2010. The committee has again decided to invite all groups to participate in a Multicultural Space and we are proposing to increase the size of the space. The committee has agreed to fund the cost of the space fully and simply requests all groups to register their interest by the 15th June 2009 by emailing John at  This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it  by that date. Any individual requests regarding space can be made in the email and then we will organise a meeting of all participants to design a layout that will suit everyone. This invitation is open to all multicultural groups so please join us in making a special Multicultural Space at Carnival 2010.

WELCOME TO AGMC!

In Australia there are a number of culturally based Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender, Intersex and Queer (GLBTIQ) communities. The groups have traditionally been formed to provide social support for Australians from Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) backgrounds that identify as GLBTIQ. In 2003, the groups came together in a community building / strengthening effort to promote greater understanding in a truly multicultural, diverse sense.

In October 2004, the groups held the Inaugural Australian Multicultural GLBTIQ Conference (AGMC) “Living and Loving in Diversity” at the St Kilda Town Hall (Victoria). For the first time (here and overseas) a highly successful Conference was held with over 200 participants per day. One of the major outcomes emanating from the Conference was the formation of a legally recognised non-profit organisation, the Australian Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender, Intersex and Queer Multicultural Council Inc. (AGMC Inc.)

The Committee would like to thank Palmina Iacobelli who has come on board as an assistant to the AGMC Committee. Palmina is also a VGLRL board member and brings with her some excellent skills. As part of her role with the VGLRL, Palmina is searching for volunteers to assist with the 40th Anniversary celebrations of Stonewall. Please refer below.

It has taken over 4½ years but we finally have the 2004 Conference Proceedings in our hot little hands. This extensive document detailing all the proceedings from the “Living and Loving in Diversity” Conference are all contained in this 180+ page document. The proceedings will shortly be available on our website so please check it out.

As mentioned in our last newsletter the AGMC will hold a forum later in the year. The content of the forum is currently being arranged and is in its infancy so anyone wishing to be involved should contact us directly on This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. The forum will likely be held on the same weekend as United We Dance (refer below) and the working title of the forum at the moment is "Is My Sexuality More Important that My Culture or Religion?" The next planning meeting for the forum will be held in May.

At our last meeting the AGMC decided to support the petition initiated by the National Union of Students (NUS) in relation to the “Statement for Equality”. Other notices
The VGLRL is currently looking for volunteers to help organize and assist at various fundraising events during the year. Currently we are organizing events around Stonewall's 40th anniversary, 28th June and would welcome your ideas and help in this significant event which marked the start of the gay rights movement. No experience required just an interest in assisting the VGLRL to achieve its goals, some time to spare and ideas on organizing events to raise money for the VGLRL to continue and expand its work in the GLBTIQ community. If you are interested in volunteering please email Palmina Iacobelli at the following email address: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it
