Multicultural Queer Australia

22 January, 2018 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm

A discussion on Multicultural Queer Australia: Then, Now, Future

Presented by Yarra Libraries, https://midsumma.org.au/program/multi18

Join a panel of speakers for an evening of discussion about the lives and experiences of multicultural, multifaith LGBTQIA+ people.

The starting point for this event is the new ground-breaking book Multicultural Queer Australia: Then, Now, Future. With pioneering and renowned contributors such as Faustina Agolley, Tony Ayres, Paul Capsis, Anton Enus, Sally Goldner, Jeremy Law, Alyena Mohummadally and Christos Tsiolkas, and pioneering emerging and well-known contributors such as Mama Alto, Ayman Barbaresco, Tony Briffa, Lian Low, Omar Sakr and Nevo Zisin, this book acknowledges and celebrates the lives and insights of culturally, ethnically and religiously diverse LGBTQIA+ Australians.

Sometimes devastating, sometimes exhilarating, the contributors reflect on living and loving, identity and representation across and through racism, religious bigotry, homophobia, biphobia and transphobia.

The book has been compiled by the Australian Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender, Intersex, Queer Multicultural Council (AGMC Inc) to mark over 10 years of its work.

Guest speakers to be announced but will include book compilers and contributors such as:

  1. Judy Tang, President of the AGMC and Co-Convenor of Yellowkitties
  2. Dino Hodge, contributor and honorary senior fellow with the Centre for Indigenous Studies at the University of Melbourne
  3. Alyena Mohummadally, contributor and founder of the Queer Muslim Network
  4. Azja Kulpinska, contributor, writer, zine-creator and radio program producer.
